What Customers Say About Pioneer GEX-P10HD HD Radio Tuner for Pioneer HD Radio-Ready Head Units:

I live in Houston so there's a good amount of options for radio. Not a big deal but a small problem. All in all this is a terrific unit and if your looking for a solid upgrade for radio go HD Radio which will be a better investment in the long term than satellite radio unless your content with satellite radio quality then HD Radio is the way to go. Installation took about 15 minutes total, and I did not use the FM extender cable for obvious reasons from other reviews. If you live in a city with HD Stations and your within 60 miles of the stations your sure to get incredible quality.

The first time I turned this on my jaw dropped absolutely stunning audio fidelity. I live at most 40 miles from most transmission towers and the sound is undeniable. My only gripe about this unit is the information read out. I was on the fence for some time whether to get XM/Sirius or HD Radio originally I was going with satellite for the main reason of the overwhelming lineup they have. My Avic unit for some reason is only capable of displaying one line of text which you get to choose as either the station name, artist, song, or no text( haven't seen traffic or weather yet so not sure about that). hissing, popping, and scratching sounds on most music stations and even worse for talk radio( average bit rate of music stations 24 - 36 kbps). The sound quality is absolutely stunning for OTA (over the air).

The problem is I love high fidelity audio and crisp audio which is what really gets me enjoying my music. After doing extensive reading on the issue I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this unit. Crisp mids and highs and smooth bass, I was skeptical at first but hearing is believing. Another issue is the presets when you pull up the list of presets all fields are blank except 1 - 5 numbering. I just purchased this unit for my Accord 07 with an Avic-f700bt and I have to say this is an incredible improvement over standard FM and AM. Satellite radio is quite the opposite instead of quality they provide you over a hundred channels of low quality audio i.e.

Don't be fooled by other reviews that claim to get no reception or bad quality.

I got this for my Avic D3, but you have to get the y-adapter for the antenna because I lost the AM/FM from the analog side.

I don't even use the built-in tuner anymore. In fact, it brings it in even better than the built-in tuner on my F90BT--with a brighter sound. AM channels are ridiculously clear.I think it should cost quite a bit less, though.I swapped out my headunit for another F90BT (the first one had a bad harness) and found that my radio station presets carried over, which was nice. The P10HD is a great tuner. I bought it with a splitter so that I could get analog FM, too--not knowing that the HD tuner could also bring in analog radio. As you drive and a station goes in and out of digital HD, the transition is smooth, but you can certainly hear the difference in quality.

I searched around and it looks like its a known problem and sounds like Pioneer can't fix it becasue it is a software problem with the tuner and there is no way to update the firmware on the tuner. Also doesn't get near as many stations as I would of expected. Seems to work ok but some things just are not right, like even though you program the presets they are all blank other than the preset number. Many of my stations that I receive fine with a standard FM radio switch back and forth from digital to analog with this tuner. It was a toss up for me beteen the Satalite Radio tuner or this, I opted for this because the service is free, I should of bought the Satalite tuner.

The sound is just as advetised and FM is even better.Once you figure out how to remove the dash and radio housing (this is the hard part) the rest is easy. This unit solved all my AM radio problems. Just hook it up and you are ready to go.If you are having AM radio problems, this good very well be your solution.
